Northern Virginia Black Chamber of Commerce Receives $300,000 in Federal Funding
Washington, D.C: The Northern Virginia Black Chamber of Commerce (NVBCC) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded $300,000 in Federal funding from the Fiscal Year 2023 government spending legislation, recently signed into law by President Joseph R. Biden, Jr.
The NVBCC is the only Chamber of Commerce in Virginia to have received such funding, which underscores the importance of its mission and vision. The NVBCC serves the Black-owned business community in Northern Virginia with networking opportunities, education, training, resources, and support to promote their economic flourishing.
The NVBCC will dedicate this funding to its Build Thriving Returns Now (BTRNow) program, which will increase resources, training certifications, and educational opportunities for member businesses. The BTRNow program is yet another tool in the NVBCC’s toolbox for empowering Black-owned businesses and boosting the local economy.
NVBCC Executive Director Sheila K. Dixon said, “We are grateful to Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine for their support of the NVBCC and our mission to promote economic empowerment and development in the Black community. This funding will make a real difference to the small businesses we serve, and we look forward to continuing to work with our elected officials to create opportunities for all Virginians.”
The Northern Virginia small business community, in particular the Black business community, has been significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Black entrepreneurs continue to face obstacles, and they are working to recover their businesses and promote their economic health. The NVBCC is continuing to work for sustainable growth for Black-owned businesses; the financial resources provided by this funding will help NVBCC businesses excel in their industries.
According to NVBCC Board Chairman Sam Wiggins, “The NVBCC is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting economic development in the black community, and we are committed to building a strong and vibrant economy for all. This funding from Congress is vital to our mission and will allow us to further develop innovative programs and training for our member businesses. I would like to give my personal thanks to both Senator Mark Warner and Senator Tim Kaine for making this possible.”
The NVBCC would also like to thank Xavier Warren and Congressional Partners for their hard work in helping us to obtain this funding.
